21/07 Paladin and Shaman in the expansion | 7/21/2006 9:32:24 AM PDT

As we draw closer to the release of World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade, more of the secrets shrouding the Draenei and Blood Elves are being revealed. One legend involves the noble leader of the Draenei, Velen, and his vision. Velen’s vision was given substance in the form of Nobundo, a one-time Draenei priest who had devolved while the orcs decimated his race and tore the planet apart. Like his fellow Broken, Nobundo had lost contact with the Light, and so he ventured far into the deserts of Outland to meditate and pray for guidance.

After decades of silence, an unfamiliar voice finally answered his prayers. It was not the Light that whispered to him, but the wind. The breeze spoke to him of lost truths, of the might of the elements--of the delicate balance of power embraced by the shaman. Nobundo listened eagerly and learned all he could. When he judged the time was right, he departed the desert determined to use this knowledge to help the Draenei race.

Meanwhile, the Blood Elves busied themselves by establishing the fearsome Blood Knights. Their founding was made possible through the capture of a naaru from Tempest Keep by Prince Kael’thas Sunstrider. Kael’thas delivered the naaru to Silvermoon, where Magister Astalor Bloodsworn began months of study and experimentation on the naaru. Eventually, Astalor and his fellow wizards learned how to manipulate and corrupt the naaru’s luminous energies. In the end the wizards devised a process by which the powers of the Light could be transferred to recipients who had not earned such abilities. Instead of feeding upon the naaru's magic, the blood elves would wield the naaru's Light-given powers themselves.

Lady Liadrin, formerly a priestess, had recently renounced her vows, for she felt the Light had abandoned her people. She learned of the wizards' achievement and volunteered to be the first to bend the stolen powers to her will. With her decision a new order was born: the Blood Knights. These renegade paladins are able to harness the sacred powers of the Alliance’s noblest heroes.

These new developments with the Draenei and Blood Elves mean that World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade will allow Alliance players to create shamans, and Horde players to play as paladins, using the newly uncovered races. The ability for players of both factions to use any class opens up exciting new gameplay opportunities, with fresh group-play dynamics. Those who have faithfully pledged their allegiance with one faction or the other will finally have the opportunity to try out a class that was once unavailable to them. While Alliance shamans and Horde paladins mostly share the same talents as their counterparts across the battlefield, they will also enjoy some unique abilities to themselves, similar to the priest class’ racial specialties. First thought is that it sucks

Second thought is: Cool, both sides will be "more balanced" raid wise.

Paladin aura's for us

Totems for them

I think it is a good decision.

I agree. It solves the faction imbalance in one shot, however we have to get our paladins to 60, well 70, to be able to compete in the end game instances.

Well, I know what my first expansion character will be...BE Paladin.

Good for the game, horrible for the lore. Also horrible cause now, youre going to have to sacrifice other classes to make room for pallies.....And the most likely class will be shamans.

Instead of running 6-7 shamans, likely be like 3-4 of each. Im of two minds on this.

I thought the same thing at first too, but think of a pally and a shaman in the same group...and I suspect based on what Eyonix has said that there will now be occassions (in the expansion) where one class is required to be able to defeat an encounter.

I also suspect that both (well, all) classes will get more class defining talents for 61 to 70 as well, so it's going to be hard to speculate on what Paladins and Shaman will be like once the expansion hits. I suspect that the Shaman review (which most felt was a nerf) has something to do with the future talents being more powerful...just idle speculation on my part. :)

I'm taking a wait and see attitude for now, but will be rolling a BE Paladin when the expansion hits.

No! All plate! All plate is mine!

*sigh*

So now we not only get elves, but paladins too.

Just warning you now, Cwn is going to be very vicious and rude to each and every Belf and Pally she meets, on a matter of principle, guild or not. Don't take it personal, just an RP thing.

That's ok. My Paly just may try to smite every forsaken he sees too...but then again he evloved from Blood Knights (inherently self centered) so he may like your kind...haven't decided yet. :)

Well, in my peachy optimistic mind, maybe, just maybe, this will get enough Alliance whining about the crappiness of the Ten Storms set... so it might be turned into something useful? *hopes*

And Al, if you turn into a Draenei Shammie, I'm gonna wail on ya with a Blood Elf Pally! Rawr!

And I thought the BE starting area was going to be bad before...

I do have to worry, though. I had figured BEs would be able to take the priest class, seeing as we only have two races who can be priests now, while the Alliance has three. Making it 4 alliance priest races, and keeping only 2 Horde-side would be insane. But if BEs are getting paladins, can I really expect them to be getting priests as well?

Goddamn it this means I have to share the plate! No! Tanky no want bubblebiters! The plate is mine I tell you! It's MINE!!!!

Nothing to worry about there, we have Might, and they have, I think Law?

However, spots for MC will disappear for certain classes and in certain raids in order to squeeze them in. I just hope it's not me *weep*
