Qiris
With a heavy heart, Xiris read the entry in Akiris' diary and sighed. She'd wondered if maybe Akiris had heard the arguing that awful night, and now she realized Akiris had indeed heard the whole ugly fight. The Dark Lady knew both she and Qiris had hollered enough to raise the dead, and the Undead too. How had this come to pass, that the sister she'd found wandering out in the Barrens so close to death had wreaked such havoc on her little family? Xiris remembered the day she stumbled across Qiris—at first she'd thought the little orc was nothing more than a pile of dirty, torn clothes. Only once she'd dismounted from her horse did she realize the pile of clothes was actually a small orc, but she couldn't tell if the orc was a boy or a girl. Xiris had found her lying crumpled by some rocks near a Razormane camp and it was clear from her wounds that she was lucky to be alive. Xiris still didn't know what possessed her to take the little orc home. It wasn't like the Forsaken were all that fond of orcs anyway—they were homely to Undead eyes, and smelled funny, too, like the rodents found scurrying around Durotar and the Barrens. Plus they were hard to understand, it was like they had a mouthful of gravel when they talked. Some Forsaken believed the orcs didn't really belong in the Horde since they were so unintelligible, and said that listening to an orc talk was like trying to listen to a scorpid talk. There was even talk that that orcs didn't possess true intelligence and were nothing more than trained animals. Xiris didn't know about THAT, although she did wonder if she would ever master their garbled language. Nevertheless, she gathered the little orc up in her boney arms, and cast a portal for the Undercity. Once there, she called on her sister Jiris to tend to the little girl with her healing arts. As the little orc healed, she told Xiris and Jiris her story. Born into the rogue class, she'd apparently been abandoned by her parents to be raised in that dreadful orphanage in Orgrimmar. The moment she could stealth, she'd run away to seek her fortune and find her family. Xiris guessed she should have been more skeptical about Qiris' true motivations; she was always so interested in loot and money—so much so that the vendors in the Undercity forbade her to come near them. They'd complained privately to Xiris that Qiris practiced her pick pocketing skills on them, and that inventory always went missing after she'd been hanging around them. But even the Forsaken can have soft hearts and so it was that Xiris grew to love the little orc, and adopted her into the family. She'd even given her an *iris name to show the girl that she was truly a part of the family even if she wasn't Forsaken. But all of that changed when Qiris reached her 23rd season.
