Rhoach
The rain fell pitter-patter onto the muck-ridden ground. A nearby squirrel twitched nervously. It knew something was amiss, but its nervous brain couldn't comprehend exactly what. It went back to gnawing open the hickory nut it was working on, but continued to glance about nervously. The tranquil scene was shattered as a clawed hand thrust out of the ground and crushed the squirrel to a pulp in its bony clutch. A second hand followed the first, followed by a decomposing arm. An abomination of a lifeform birthed itself from the moldy earth's rotten womb. It sniffed at the air around it, then noticed the bloody bit of fur clutched in its right hand. It sniffed the gooey mess, then lifted it to its mouth abruptly. It let out a groan of dismay as the squirrel plopped onto the ground. The figure felt around its mouth, then discovered that it was missing not only its tusks, but its entire jaw. It grunted and picked up the squirrel again, peering at it quizzically. After a bit of thought, it simply shoved the meat all the way down its gullet, swallowing it whole. Satiated for the moment, it ambled off into the thicket, trying to make sense of itself as its brain began to work again.
