Desler
Name: Sama’la Class: Sith Assassin / Tank I don’t remember much of anything other than being a slave. Of course, when you’re a small child, the term slave has no meaning. I could not say that I had a mother and a father in the ways that most beings do, but I did have someone to look out for me when I was younger. I wouldn’t consider her a mother, per se, but….she did protect me others. There was no one to protect me from her though. She was a fellow slave named Sola, and I lived in fear of her for most of my young life but she was the only one who would look out for me. Some of the earliest memories I have is being alone in a small room for what seemed like an eternity at the time. Sola was a slave that worked at a spice factory on Nar Shadda. She would go off and leave me locked up in the small room that she had in the slave quarters of a small time Hutt boss by the name of Rego who was in charge of a Ryll factory on some level of the planet that I do not remember. I never knew exactly how I became stuck with Sola, because I heard many different stories concerning my origins. One version of the story, which I preferred, was that I was given to her by a friend of hers for safe keeping. My mother and Sola were friends and they used to dance for some person I can’t really remember who, and my mother was ill and told Sola to take care of me. This is the story I wanted to believe as a child because the other story was so frightening. Sola left at night to whatever factory she worked at leaving me all alone in the tiny room that we shared. I would lie in the corner, wrapped up in a blanket, with a doll that I had, scared out of my mind from all of the strange and awful noises coming through the walls. There was screaming almost every night, rumbling noises, loud booms, and just other mechanical noise that would frighten any small child. I would eventually fall asleep at some point…..and then Sola would come home. I would be sound asleep when she came back and she would wake me up by screaming and throwing things at me. “Get up, you lazy little schutta! Where is my breakfast?!”...and so on until I would jump up and open whatever box of tasteless food we had to eat that week. As a child I was frightened of her when she came back from work, but now that I’m older I realize that she was using the ryll that they handed out to the workers to keep them motivated and docile while they were working. Eventually she would fall asleep and I would watch holo-dramas until she woke up a few hours before her shift started. The most enjoyable times of my childhood were when Sola woke up and seemed much more coherent than was typical for her. She would tell me all types of stories about the outside world…..well it was mostly about what went on at the factory the gossip concerning the other slaves in the area. To me, it was the most fascinating thing ever. Everything I ever learned as a child came from the weak mind of a spice fiend. This went on for a while until I was about twelve years old. Up until I was twelve years old, I very rarely went outside of the small apartment I shared with Sola, unless I was with her, but that was usually when it was dark and even then I had to cover up. My lekku had to be covered at all times…for my protection, according to Sola. She was afraid that I would be snatched up by some slaver so I was very grateful to her for looking out for me. She was like a big sister to me at this stage of my life, but that was only because I was weak and deluded myself with childish fantasies. On one of these nights out, I noticed that Sola was more agitated than normal. She usually went prowling around for a fix before she had to report to the factory for her fourteen hour shift, but this night was to be a turning point in my young life. I was told that my mother had come back and that she wanted to see me! I had always dreamed of this moment for all of my short life and was beside myself with excitement. We were going to this rathole cantina in one of the deepest levels of the planet, and there my mother would be waiting for us and I was to go home with her. I was chattering away to Sola all of the way there and asking her questions about what was going to happen. I remember Sola saying, “You have to be quiet! You don’t want some slaver to grab you do you?” These words were enough to get me to shut up some nights, but this night was different. I said to her, “I will miss you” and a bunch of other stupid things about always remembering her and the like. Her reply, which I will remember until the day I die was, “I hope you’ll remember all of the things I taught you but most of all, I hope you remember tonight the most.” She seemed especially troubled after that, and we soon got to the cantina, “The Black Hole.” We went through the crowd and went to wait for some being in a backroom behind the bar. Sola asked me if I was thirsty, and of course I was with all of the excitement that was happening around me. She brought me back some kind of drink, what it was I don’t remember. All I remember was it tasted sweet, so I drank all of it. I’m positive now that the drink was laced with some kind of sedative, because I fell asleep within a few minutes. I woke up in another strange room, and I remember being very cold. I looked down at myself and noticed that I was completely naked. Shivering and frightened, I waited for Sola to come and help me but I never saw her again. When someone finally came back to the room, I was shocked to see another Twi’lek! I had never seen another person like me, except for in holo-shows, so naturally I asked if she was my mother. I remember the sad look on face, and she told me that she was not my mother and explained to me that I was now the property of Rego the Hutt and I was to be trained as a dancer and to tend to the “needs” of Rego’s guests. I won’t go into details of what happened afterwards, as I’m sure you can guess, and this went on until I was seventeen. I remember the night of my escape came when I was told that a very special guest was coming to see Rego and I was expected to give my best in entertaining said guests. The other girls and I were preparing to perform, when a droid came in and handed me a package. I looked at the flimsy-card on top of the box and it read, “To Sama’la, keep this a secret. Don’t let any of the girls see it.” I read the card to the girls and they all laughed and tried to grab it, but I ran off to a corner to open it. When I was sure no one was looking, I opened the box, and inside was a small vibroblade and another note inside. This note read the following: Sama’la, Now you are a slave and helpless. This will change in the next few hours. I will help you to escape, but you must do something for me first. This vibroblade is small enough to hide in even the tiniest of places; I will let you choose where to keep it. When the time comes, I want you to throw it at Rego the Hutt, thus poisoning him and freeing yourself from his clutches forever. I will not be there to help you accomplish this task, but I will be watching and waiting. Confused, but desperate, I hid the vibroblade in the only place I knew it couldn’t be found and prepared further for the night to come. When we were “performing” that night, I tried my hardest to act as normal as possible, but one of the girls teased me about the gift and my hero would come to save me. I laughed nervously, but inside I was terrified. This went on for about an hour until a group of being came into the throne room and moved to one side of the room in a darkened corner. I didn’t pay much attention to them at the time; beings hiding in a dark corner are not a rare event at Rego’s. I didn’t know how to describe it at the time, but now I know that I could feel the dark side emanating from them. They were dressed in colorful robes, and I assumed that they were some wealthy nobles looking to the Hutt’s favor. The leader of the group walked up to the Hutt’s Major Domo to speak, but she looked at my direction first. I could see that she tall human with strange yellow eyes, and she smiled at me. I heard a female voice in my head saying, “The time has come for your deliverance. You can control your destiny from this point forward, but you must not let your fear control you. You must use it to your advantage. You must throw, and only then will I show you how to never be a victim again.” After her words, I felt a strange feeling come over me. I somehow knew that these were not the paranoid thoughts of a small child raised to be fearful, but the words of another. I continued to dance for the guests but, I gathered enough strength to move closer to the Hutt’s dais and prepared myself for the throw. I had never felt so sure and confident of myself as I moved closer. It was as if, someone else was moving my body for me, and I just a puppet on strings. A few minutes passed then an overwhelming sense of calm washed over me, and I heard the females voice in my head again, “Throw or stay here forever.” I threw. I had never thrown a vibroblade before but I had seen it done in the holo-drama’s and, to my surprise, the blade flew straight and stuck the Hutt directly between the eyes. Rego screamed in shock for about three seconds and felt silent. Everyone in the room froze in shock. I looked over at the woman, and I will remember her smile for the rest of my life. She smiled, and I heard her say “Nicely done.” It was strange, because her voice was different from the one in my head. She saw the shock registered on my face, and threw her head back and laughed. Then she ignited a double-bladed lightsaber and jumped to my side. The other dark figures that came with her all ignited their red-bladed lightsabers and proceeded to massacre the other being in the room, dancers and all. When the carnage was over and I finally opened my eyes, the woman reached down to me, grabbed my chin to force me to look into her eyes. “Who are you?” I asked. She replied, “I am Sith, and you are coming with me.” I nodded, and followed her through the palace and past the carnage that lay everywhere. Everyone that I had ever seen in the palace was dead, slain by the Sith that surrounded me. We entered a speeder that was waiting outside and traveled to the spaceport. At the ship, I was lead up the ramp and directed to a room, where I was given new clothes to wear and told to clean myself up and report to the crew cabin when I was ready. After rinsing myself off in the sonic shower I went to crew cabin and saw my rescuer completely for the first time. She was a tall dark skinned woman of an age I could not tell. Those strange yellow eyes of hers seemed to bore into my being and then she smiled that enigmatic smile of hers. I thanked her for coming to rescue me, but she raised her hand towards me and I instantly lost my ability to speak. She smiled to me and spoke these words. “You are no longer a slave, but you are not yet free. People far more powerful than me have seen you and noticed your potential and I have given the task of providing you with the information you need to face the next step in your journey. The next few weeks will be the most difficult that you have faced in your young life but you will learn things beyond your wild imaginations. After these few weeks, I will take you to your new home and there you will meet your destiny. You may speak.” She lowered her hand, and I gasped for air. “I heard your voice in my head and the palace, and I wanted to thank you”, I replied. She looked at me strangely with a raised brow and said, “It was not my voice that you heard.” With a troubled look, she said “Who or what you may have heard is no matter, what is important is that you listen to everything I say and obey my every command in the next few weeks. There is little time to teach you everything a young student must know, but we will prepare you for where you are going.” “Where am I going?” I asked. She gave me that enigmatic smile of hers, and replied with one word, Korriban. Edited December 8, 2011 by Desler
