Irritation with GOTH

:)

I'm hoping that this one incident is not really indicative of other GOTH members.

First, I had no idea that GOTH's leader thinks it's a good idea to get faction points by hitting every rebel base you run across -- essentially, you steal missions from fellow imperials. Which means, you steal their chances of extra faction points and any loot, including quest items like the discs. So when I found this out, and I'm not sure this is 100% true, as it was not from the leader's mouth himself, I'm wary, but willing to believe he may have been misquoted or something. No offense to the fellow who told me that the GOTH leader believes this.

But it does bug me if it is true. It's just not ethical. With missions aplenty, why wouldn't you go get a mission and just handle your own missions for fp? You get about 100 fp permission really. 15 for each person (mine average 3 rebels per mission) and then 15 for the base and then another 15 or so for the mission. So what is that? 75 fp per mission. Not bad. Plus money found on the rebels and for doing the mission. There's no reason to steal others' missions.

Ok, so what has my pants in a knot? This...

Kkatacuk, Cyva, and myself were running imp missions on Talus, from the Imperial base there, and were running towards Kk's last one. He'd said his was just ahead, then began to fire. As Cyva and I caught up, it turns out that Kk was firing on one rebel. There was a base there and we helped him finish off the one (out of three) rebel. The base and remaining two were untouched even as Alvin Flummux of GOTH appears, suddenly, yelling at us. Here is what showed on my screen, but keep in mind, I have the still of it. It ticked me off.

*****

"My missions here" Alvin Flummux yells.

Alvin Flummux yells, "do NOT attack"

"b a s t a r d s" Alvin Flummux says. (spacing of the word is my doing because the post won't post it right otherwise)

"thats MY missions" Alvin Flummux says.

[GROUPCHAT] kkatacuk: LOL

"don't you know ANYTHING??" Alvin Flummux says.

"jesus" Alvin Flummux says

Siluial Esme says "uh... there's no need for name calling"

[GROUPCHAT] cyva: that yours kk?

[GROUPCHAT] kkatacuk: just spawned me

"my bad yo" Kkatacuk says in Shyriiwook.

Alvin Flummux says, "look, these 2 bases are my missions"

Siluial Esme says, "The missions are still there."

"do NOT attack the rebels or their bases" Alvin Flummux says

"if an enemy attacks us we will kill it" Cyva says

Alvin Flummux says, "i need the fps"

Alvin Flummux says, "Go around them"

"we are" Cyva says

Cyva says "lose the attitude"

*****

Before we do/say anything he's on us and being rude and obnoxious. We weren't rude, Kk apologized and the guy still was full of attitude and crap. I just really hope that he doesn't represent the rest of Goth. We all need FP. EVERYONE in the EMPIRE needs FP. Gah!

Just as I was getting used to the jerks being rebels, too. What a disappointment.

I'm sorry - I read your post twice and I am still confused. You are accusing GOTH of taking mission spawns that arent theirs (I can verify that I have seen them do this - BUT - I have also taken rebel bases out if there is no one around) but at the same time you are getting mad because someone was rude to you when you tried to steal his mission. Am I missing something here?

Let me try to clarify. We arrived and yes did start to shoot. But stopped when he first yelled. The -first- yell. The rest of his rant, and calling us ######s, when we had stopped and hadn't said a thing was uncalled for.

I'm not accusing GOTH of anything. I've never seen them do anything. Never heard them admit to doing it.

But it seems to me this guy just blew a gasket for no reason. We hit the wrong mission. It happens. He still had 2 rebels left to kill and his base to complete his mission. If we'd nuked it all with him standing there ... then he could complain. Hell, I'd have apologized.

Like I said, Kk was firing, we joined him on the one he was firing on and that was it. He apologized and we moved on, but it seemed that Alvin went off. Like the apology meant nothing.

maybe it is nothing. I know I get annoyed at folks who take my missions, worse when I tell them to stop and they laugh, but I have never gotten it so far under my skin that I just started calling them names and ranting.

*shrug*

Maybe I expect more out of fellow imps. Dunno

Also, I never saw Alvin there. not on my radar or in sight when we first crested the hill and when Kk began firing. He showed up moments later. Maybe that was lag. Don't know either.

I'm more mad that, instead of saying "Hey that's mine, back off" he went straight to being a jerk. Do not pass go, do not collect $200, go straight to berzerk.

We can not hope to be able to control the actions or decisions of others, only our own.

This will be the first of many encounters we will have like this with members of both sides of the war. The line of immaturity is not clearly divided among rebels and imperials.

We can only hope to look at ourselves and ensure we do not stoop to their level and engage them in their pettiness. Members of the ITC are several cuts above that.

I would not take this one incident as a representation of the entire whole of GOTH. I know I would be greatly dissapointed if the entire reflection of the ITC rested upon one member (possibly a new member who lost their cool)

Agreed, Savrem. But I thought it worth putting up.

If nothing else, it warns others. I pride myself on being 'nice' to everyone.

Folks who irritate me to the point where I consider killing them to be 'nice' ... well I avoid them.

If at all possible, that is. Sometimes you can't (like my mom, but she's another issue all together) ...

I"ve heard similiar situations with Goth, but have not seen anything first hand. Going around attacking Rebel bases that are not part of your mission, in my opinion, is ok. Granted you should make sure that it isn't someone elses mission, if there isn't another Imperial in sight then to me it's all yours. If someone comes along shouting, "That's my mission." then back off. When that happens to me I usually try leading the Rebel to the guy so he can get as much exp for it as possible.

Try to keep in mind, with this alliance comes alot of different personalities and different points of views on many occasions. I assume that everyone in spatial chat is roleplaying, or view it as roleplaying. From my understanding we have an alliance with them concerning rebels and preventing them from gaining a foothold on Theed. Every guild will handle themselves differently, and in some cases we will mostly likely disagree with their conduct. As long as they don't expect us to blindly stand up for them in situations(Meaning, defending them based on their word alone, without investigating it ourselves.), there shouldn't be a problem. We all have a common goal, and we will each handle it our own way. That's why I joined ITC cause I agreed with Savrem's (And the other officers) charter and attitude about dealing with in game situations.

As some of you know Savrem charged me with composing ITC's "Rules of Engagement" and/or "Code of Conduct". It will help guide our conduct and fill us with a sense of confidence in our actions.

If you find a rebel base out in the wild then it may or may not be a mission. In those random spots it's generally ok to attack.

However, there are some areas (such as SW of Kaadara and the area around the Talus Imperial Outpost) where there is always a heavy concentration of rebel bases and all but a couple of them are missions. If you encounter one in such an area that isn't yours, try your best to go around outside the rebels' detection range. If the base spawns right by you or you get attacked for some other reason, defend yourself. If someone comes along and gets pissed off at you for defending yourself against an attack that you had been trying to avoid, CALMLY explain what happened and appologize. If they want to keep on yelling let them.

What gets me is that Alvin or whatever his name was started yelling at us even before I saw a combat mark on any of our status bars.
