Vradish
(PART 6) The alliance did not journey that night. They set guards around the entirety of their camp, and kept a vigilant watch on all fronts, in a desperate attempt to defend themselves against an unseen enemy. No soldier took time to torment the orcs, so they were left alone. Vidarok fell into an uneasy sleep, but Grulg and Vradish kept awake for a time. Uglutz was silent, staring with a curious expression into the night sky. Vradish soon succumbed to his weariness and drowsed into a light sleep. Yet that slumber lasted for but a short time, as movement to his side awakened Vidarok. He turned his head sharply, and took notice that the stake that had secured Vradish was now vacant, the cords lying unbound on the sandy ground. Fearing the worst, Uglutz bowed his head with respect and sorrow to the soldier he now believed dead. After a short moment of silence, there came a slight rustling sound behind the Grulg, and he felt a tug at the bonds that constrained his arms behind him. Uglutz tried to arc his head back, yet the tight cords allowed for little movement. Yet his unspoken question was soon answered, as the hard voice of Vradish filled his ear. "Onli a fuul so quickli relinquises his lif," the orc spoke. "Ur chunce ub escape has kum!" Uglutz was about to answer, when an enraged shout arose from amidst the alliance camp. Soon other shouts chorused throughout the night air, and multiple footfalls began to drum like impending doom towards the orcish prisoners. Lushum's head perked up, and he muttered a furious and alarmed curse. Quickly, he abandoned his bosses and fellow orcs and fled into the night. The alliance soldiers followed in irate pursuit, shouting curses and brandishing their swords. Several long moments passed, and then a horrific scream pierced the camp. Then an eternal silence, and the alliance soldiers returned, dragging the corpse of Lushum of Orgrimmar towards the fires. Grulg was very angry but could only curse. Life had suddenly become a tyrannical burden, and for a time his mind perilously faltering on the brink of life and death. He was losing his bloodlust, that's what keeps him alive.A small group of wretched souls remained. *********** Edited December 14, 2003 by Vradish
Vradish
(PART 7) They were beyond pity, beyond life, beyond hope. Uglutz , Grulg and the rest of the clan of Orgrimmar marched aimlessly forward, requiring each other's support to keep on their feet. Their lives would soon be ended, if not by the knives and swords of the alliance, then by the lack of water and blazing heat of the desert sun. Yet the alliance enjoyed their sport, and wanted not for the orcs to die of natural means. Thus, the group captives were fed and given drinks, a gift that was eagerly and greedily accepted. This sustenance strengthened them enough to survive, though weakness and exhaustion still tugged at their bodies, minds and souls. Thus they pushed on, knowing full well that the nourishment they received was a curse in disguise; that their lives were being prolonged for the soul purpose of torture. Yet they cared not, they were beyond caring, and continued their trek amidst the enormous troupe of the alliance. The army was not beset once that day, and of the accursed invisible enemy there was no sign. When nightfall fell, the alliance went about their usual tasks, setting up camp, and singing songs of their victories. The prisoners were secured as usual, sitting with their legs bound together and their arms tied behind a wooden stake. For many an hour, the group captives were not given a moment's notice. Yet long after the sun had set, and most of the alliance soldiers had fallen into slumber, a single captain approached the small group of orcs, his face contorted with an evil smirk. In his hand was a long knife, dented and notched from use in battle. His purpose was clear, though his mind seemed undecided, as he continually turned his gaze from one prisoner to the other. The group sat silently, with their heads high and their eyes blazing with pride. They watched as the alliance captain's eyes sparkled in indecision. Yet suddenly his eyes narrowed and his mouth tightened in resolve, and he brought his knife to the throat of Uglutz, slicing his skin slightly and drawing blood. Uglutz uttered not a word, but gazed ardently into the face of his assailant. He could almost see his death upon him, dark but welcoming, and he embraced it. The alliance captain pulled back the knife, preparing to stab his prisoner through the heart. He hesitated for but a moment, and then he felt the wet insult of spit cudgel against his face. Outraged, the captain turned to see Grulg glaring at him in utter defiance. The orc warrior was beyond redemption; his purpose was firm. "Skah!" he shouted virulently in the orcish tongue, caring not that the captain could not understand. "Scurge ub da desurt! Damn da veri sant lat wulk un! May lat ded am fit ub such un scoundrel u lat, und may id am by da hand ub an uruk ub da skullcrusher clan!" "Grulg!" cried Uglutz. "Stuy lat tonge!" The orc did not answer his friend, but continued to cry out curses and call down oaths of damnation upon the alliance captain. Futilely, Grulg struggled to free himself from his bonds, yet his weakened stamina did not suffice. The captain abandoned Uglutz and approached the furious Grulg, and bludgeoned the Orgrimmar orc’s face with a staggering blow. Grulg brought his thrashed head back up high, and his eyes burned with unbridled hatred. He pulled back and spat again in the captain's face, shouting at the top of his lungs bitter scorns and insults. The captain wanted to kill the orc but was stopped by an higher ranked soldier. “Keep him alive,we can play with him later” The captain spitted in Grulg’s face and leaved. * * * * * * * Edited December 14, 2003 by Vradish
Vradish
(PART 8) Time was the enemy now. Every passing moment was a mental and physical torture, one that offered no hope of being assuaged. Hope? chortled a whispering, menacing voice in Uglutz's mind. Hope is a dream, a privilege that you were not worthy to receive. There is no hope for you. There never was any hope. You were damned from the very beginning. My death means nothing. Uglutz's mind answered steadfastly. Me hav savet meeb peeple. Have you? asked the voice, then wavered and disappeared, leaving Uglutz alone in the darkness of twilight. “Am lat ulright?” asked Vradish slowly. “Yub , leeve meeb” The night was cool, and Uglutz did not allow himself to fall asleep for fear of the horrific nightmares that would inevitably plague him. He stayed awake and watched; watched as the fires lessened and died, only to be replenished with new timber by the alliance soldiers. He watched as the soldiers that served as the sentinels joked, argued, and sang, content from their conquest. He watched as the crescent moon navigated the night sky in its familiar rotation. He watched, and he dimly wondered when he was going to die. Vidarok's head sagged down to his chest from exhaustion. A disturbing thought had entered his mind, that pain and suffering was the only reality, and the days of joy and laughter were but a dream, a cruel figment of his tortured imagination. And then, suddenly, the orc’s arms were free. Time came to a halt. The small group brought their hands before their faces, staring at them curiously. It was the first time they had seen their palms in days. Entranced by their sight, the clan for a short moment could not tear their eyes from them. Then suddenly, they realized that his bonds could not have cut themselves free. Vradish's head jerked up, and he noticed with astonishment that there was a raging conflict all around him. The furtive enemy that had eluded the alliance for so long had now launched its ultimate, decisive assault. Warriors were battling on all sides of the camp, their war shouts and the clash of metal resounding harmoniously in a frenetic medley. Then a dim figure rushed to his legs, and the clan found themself freed of all constraint. The obscure, nameless figure helped him to his feet, bowing and relinquishing a sword to Grulg. Amazed beyond speech, Grulg felt the cold steel in his hand, enamored by its texture. Then his head lifted high with resolve, his vision suddenly in focus with its trained acuity. He took one faltering step forward, and would have fallen over if not for the supporting arms of his rescuer. For the first time, Grulg took the time to gaze fully at his savior, and noticed that the person was a woman. "Da peeple need ther protection," she whispered, a sweet, wondrous voice that seemed to shake the heavens with its beauty. A voice fairer than morning sunlight upon a calm ocean, and she spoke in the orcish tongue. Hope! Strength from a hidden inner well started to course through Grulg's body, and despite his haggardness, never before did he look more noble and terrible as orc. He gently freed himself from the grasp of the maiden. Then shouting a war cry of vengeance that reached beyond the realms of Middle Earth to be heard even in the woods of Kalimdor , The skullcrusherclan charged into battle. The alliance soldiers had been unsuspecting, the first wave of the attack had decimated the front lines of their army. In a panic, they tried to leap from their beds and retrieve their weapons, but their nameless enemy fought hard, quick, and keen. Countless warriors were killed while still asleep. Yet the alliance was not made of fools, and their numbers were still vastly superior to their opponents. The rest of the skullcrusher clan joined their bosses and the clan was completed again. Yet the smaller army had the ultimate advantage; The skullcrusher clan; eight thousand orcs , fought with unerring and irrevocable bloodlust. Despite their ardor, none fought as fervently as the ones captive orcs. Forlorn, they had found hope. Faithless, they now found trust again. Alone, they had been returned to the realms of life and companionship. they were the orcs who had finally conquered despair; a group who would fight with every last ounce of strength to defend the members of the clan. As Grulg attacked and defended against several alliance soldiers, Vradish rent his way to the warboss. He parried his way so he fought abreast to his boss, and called out in a voice that could be heard despite the tumultuous storm of the battle. "Ut am guud tu see lat ful of bludlust agun, meeb boss." "Vradish!" cried Grulg in response. "Huw dit demz found weeb?" asked Grulg fervently, trying to fight and speak at once. Vradish frowned, actively fighting himself. "Dub days ufter ur companys splut, demz espied dat demz was being fullowed by a nubhosh oomies force. Demz turned upon dem in clumper und was victorius, yut demz new da bubhosh force still followed demz." "As ut am supposed tu am," stated Grulg, parrying off a blow. "Yet demz was shamed, tu leeve lat at da mercy ub da alliance furce. Thus demz chose tu follow us, und die as orcs rather dan cowurds. Yet demz fund demzelves fur behind in latz trail. Vradish paused for a moment, to defend himself against two attackers, and to recollect that sorrowful storie he heard from the women that saved them. "A fell und accursed pluce," he stated grimly, grimacing, "am da durk city. Many a frend dem find fallen in clumper there.. Demz feered lat ded also, but da absence ub latz curpse gav demz hope, und demz resolved tu continu demz pursut. Demz mude use ub da ancient desurt tactics. At that moment, a wedge of alliance soldiers broke between Grulg and Vradish, and for a time they were sundered. But their swords still wrecked havoc upon any soul who dared oppose them. The battle raged on throughout the night, till the sun began to return from its journey in the underworld. An innumerable amount of warriors from both armies lost their lives in the conflict, with not a single mortal wavering or retreating. As a people, the Orgrimmar was no longer mighty. But now, amidst the merciless southern wasteland, united in their infallible devotion, battling with unmatched vehemence, they proved that they were truly great. **************** Edited December 14, 2003 by Vradish
Vradish
(PART 8) Sunlight illuminated the far reaches of Azeroth. The smoke from the last of the fires had cleared, and the full story of the battle could be clearly seen. Twelve thousand Alliance warriors lay dead. Amidst them were the bodies of two hundred score Orgrimmar orcs, the desert sand now their eternal graves. It was a massacre against both peoples; one that would leave incurable scars upon the hearts of every soul present. Yet the the orcs of Orgrmmar now stood as a free people. The army of the alliance laid in devastated ruin. Hope. Their people lived. The skullcrusher clan, against all damning odds, had survived. Yet their salvation was not their army. Nor was their deliverance in their city walls. Neither did a dragon suffice as their hope. No, it was not until they looked within themselves, and for the first time became fully aware of their strong bond of kinship, did they find their ultimate salvation. It was then that they discovered that it was not a warrior, nor a boss, nor an army that made them a mighty nation, but it was the bloodlust, and the strength of their resolve, that made the skullcrusher clan mighty in the world of warcraft. * * * * * * *
Vradish
(PART 9) The clan members trudged slowly in their trek to the north. They crested a small knoll of sand, and then the camp they knew as home came into view. The fire had destroyed nearly all of the inner structures, and the walls were blackened and beginning to crumble. What was left of the gates laid in a dishevelled heap in the entranceway to the city. The towers still stood tall but looked unsteady, and seemed ready at any time to crash to the ground. Beyond the walls, the devastation of the flames could be readily seen, and even the stalwart columns of the Royal Halls were reduced to scorched rubble. There were tears in the eyes of many orcs they were filled with anger. The clan stood tall and thoughtfully, taking heed of their destroyed city with an almost stoic expression. A strong hand grasped Uglutz’s shoulder, and he turned to see Vradish standing next to him. "Weeb stuud her ashce," the brave orc stated. "Lung ago ytz seems." Uglutz almost smiled sadly, but his hardened face broke instead into a slight grimace. "Ut waz lung ago. Un anuther age, nub dubt." "Undeed," agreed Vradish softly. "Ur lives, ur peeple, hav been furever changed." Vradish sighed. "Meeb mind am weeried sow dat me cannut even remembur watz caused this fell happening." "Fell?" murmured Uglutz, more to himself than to Vradish. "Culd ut nub hav am a blessung also?" Vradish scowled, his brow low and condescending. "Ur frunds waz massacred." Uglutz nodded sadly. "Nub cust kan lat put on da lyves dat hav been lust. Many frunds un brotars weeb hav luft behund during diz venture." He paused. "But did guud kum ut ub it?" "Mor dan H ash hundrid scor ub ur peeple lie ded," answered Vradish dangerously. "Whut guud kan kum of dat?" Uglutz looked at Vradish with a thoughtful expression on his face. "Ut brught ur peeple togetar," he answered simply. "Nevur befure in da urcish histury has ur clan been such strung; nevar befure hav ur peeple been such truli unyted. Weeb hav finally bekum a tru peeple, und it tuuk a cataclysm tu bring us togetar." "Ut waz cust?" asked Vradish quietly. "Weeb culd nub prevent waz happened her.Weeb, da orcish peeple, hav survivd, und thugh sturms un drugons un cuntless armys may impede ur pat, weeb shall liv un." Vradish was silent for a moment, the words of Uglutz rolling slowly through his mind. Then, Vradish of Orgrimmar, bavre defender of the elder nobs, smiled. Saluting in respect, he cried, "Me hav ashce said dat da alliance wuld nevar face un superior enumy tu lat, un me see iself right in dat judgemunt. Da peeple am her un reedy fur lat bidding, elder nob. Waz pat do weeb folluw?" asked Vidarok. Vradish took a moment to gaze at his expectant clanfriends, then to his ravaged camp in the distance. Unsheathing his sword, he slowly pointed the blade at the ruins. "The skullcrusherclan of Orgrimmar still stands!" he cried zealously. "Da walls hav been turn tu da ground, but da members stand! Da towers lie un ruyn, but da members stand! Ash nuw rusts wer da Hull ub Fam ashce did, but da members stand! "Wi weeb hav been persecuted non may fathum. Yet weeb still stund, un weeb do not falter. Weeb liv fur anutar day, anutar generatiun, anutar age. Weeb must refus tu lut ur tormuntors ultimately defeet us. Weeb must prov dat weeb am strung. Weeb must pruve dat weeb am greet. Weeb must slughter all ur enumys un shuw nub merci . Weeb am Uruks!! Vradish paused for a moment, then cried in an earnest voice, "Onward! Our city awaits us. Let us replenish her former splendor, and never yield her walls to our enemies again." ************
