Something old style, with commitment

I have a desire to play EQ Old Style. Meaning, start a character, and, WITHOUT ANY TWINKING AT ALL, grow him/her up. No plat sharing, just the absolute basics. I am looking to see if there are others who would be interested in committing to leveling characters totaly from scratch, without all the benefits the current system allows us. No one is obligated to participate, but iuf you want to do this also, it would be a long term commitment to sticking to a general set of guidelines.

Here is some of what I would like to see happen.

1) Start the character basic - and KEEP it basic - even if you start them in Gloomingdeep. All Leveling will be on ANTONICA, until about level 46, when other zones become available. (OBVIOUS EXCEPTIONS - Lizards and Vah Shir Characters. Lizards start on Kunark and can only hunt outside home city. Kitties start on Luclin and can level ONLY in adjacent zones to Shar Vahl. That excludes Paludal and other zones, and only leaves Shadeweavers and Hollowshade. Access to Antonica is permitted via the Books and the Nexus for them only. Try to keep the spirit of this idea intact please.

From the start, you will accept the following restrictions;

2) ALL equipment MUST be from drops, quests, or crafting. Newbie quests, Bone chips quests, etc are examples. I am thinking also in terms like the old pre-Kunark, Kunark, Velious, etc types of quests for armors and weapons and items.

3) Spells - to get your new spells, you have to have the coin to get them. You have to hunt, get drops, sell off drops, beg (skill - not off real players), etc. You can do spell quests. You can 'pool' coin with others who are also a part of this, but you cannot obtain them any other way.

4) Anything you pay for (such as leather armor off merchants, spells, components, food, etc) MUST be paid for with coin obtained ONLY by the character you are playing, or if a group of us is doing this, by a shared pool of coin. The idea here is your uber chars CANNOT do ANYTHING to help you, in crafting, buying things, etc. No Twinking at all, in any way.

5) NO CHEATING - You are on the honor system - even to yourself.

6) If you must travel, it is ONLY by the means available PRE-POP. The restriction here limits the Book/Pedastle use away from PoK and planes, until specific events to be outlined later. Nexus is ok, and access to Shadowhaven is permitted. There are faction quests in Shadowhaven that require traveling to other Luclin zones - access there is restricted ONLY to performing the quests, not to gaining XP or drops. Use of boats requires us to use the currently active Translocators. You can teleport yourself and groups if you have the spells. You CAN use the Luclin Towers to get to nexus and the 4 other towers in NK, DL, Odus, and GF.

7) You can go to Bazaar.

8) You CANNOT go to Pok until one of your spells/Tomes becomes available at a specific level. Level when PoK becomes OPEN permanently will be determined later.

9) IF this group forms as a little guild, then PoK will be allowed for the Guild Hall benefits.

10) The heal and clarity potions available on PoK are NOT available until PoK access is available around level 46. (still thinking this one out - trying to keep things at basics and with the intent that leveling a character is done with basics only.)

11) All other special functions available in game right now will be available based on what the group (assuming a group is possible) will want to be able to use and agrees to, so long as the true spirit of this idea is maintained.

Lets be real about this. If I make a caster, I am going to have to med my little tush off a lot. Leveling in Paludal is NOT an option. Simply put, the idea is to try and play the game as if EQ just came out years ago, but we have the current mechanics in place we can use. We don't have to sit and med in our books to get mana to regen. We can just stand and it will - slowly. or sit and see it raise up - slowly. getting a chanter with breeze will be a BIG boost for all who participate.

If we have a group, deciding what is more important, getting all spells for the casters or just the ones that help. Loading up our tanks with chain and plate or sticking to leather until level 20+. Using Fine silver weapons up to level 20, or work together to finish quests for +1 weapons.... etc.

It WILL be aggravating, as we all can twink our chars up easily.

This is an idea, and I would like to see if there are enough people who want to do this perhaps a couple of days a week. We would level together. Improve gear together. Run from zone to zone (sigh) together.

Think about this one. Think it through 20-30-40-50-60-70 levels of NO TWINKING. It will be quite different from what we play with today.

It will be hard.

Hehe I tried doing this with my zerker.. got to about lvl 12 then got her PLed and super twinked. Then decided that's how I'll play my druid.. and now she's another twink. I'd love to keep you company Rummy, but I know I cannot do this. I just don't have the patience or willpower. Now, can you group with twinks? Cuz if that's the case, then I got like 6 alts for ya to play with, hehe.

PS. Danmoth is a level 46 Halfling Druid. Was never PLed and has some good gear ( will also get Meiffo 65 Cleric with Account but is pretty much buffed).

I have settled on a solo character that I play on Stromm, a BL that I have been slowly leveling - Slowly, because I camp the BB Goblins a lot to get spell money, and to get Clarity potion money. I have so for been able to spend no more than 25 plat for any item I possess, including 2 opal steins to improve my selling/buying prices at merchants.

I group to XP, and have met many good players.

It is funny that so long as my pet is fully buffed, combat and leveling goes smoothly.

There are a LOT of people who run by and ninja buff me and my pet, without staying for any thanks or donations. I have never advertised nor asked for buffs, but consistently have Temp up and an occasional clarity buff. Spiritual light is also a common buff that is shared without asking.

Simply put, it is a good time and all the harder rules above I dont really have to worry about, because people there seem to be very sharing and kind. Of course there are the twits too.
