My $.02? Hardware firewall, turn off the Windows XP firewall. Saves CPU and memory overhead and is more reliable and less likely to be hacked. Software wise, the defrag utility in XP is sufficient, so check on that one. I've found that for web browsing and media, you need Quicktime, Flash, and Shockwave. Media Player: I alternate between iTunes and Windows Media Player (Free is good for me ) depending on what I am viewing or listening too. For IM, we use Yahoo at work, so Yahoo IM at home. Of course the MS Office suite, I use Outlook 2003 for my personal email at home, and of course the rest of the suite for attachments, resumes, etc. The Open Office suite looks very good and I have played with it a bit...I believe that it is definitely up to par, but for compatability with work I use MS Office. The plus side of OO is that it is free. My browser of choice is Firefox, but I still use IE at times for websites that aren't W3C compliant. CD/DVD Burning: My preference is Nero, but EZ CD-creator from Roxio works just fine (use both at work depending on what I need to do, but Nero at home). Antivirus: I use Norton Corp Edition...it's worked well for me for years, so I've stuck with it. Graphics: I have an old copy of PhotoShop that works fine for me, even if I don't know how to use 90% of its features. That's about all I load other than trying to stay current on BIOS updates and driver updates for my hardware and of course my games.

God, I hope WoW cooperates better Wednesday than it has tonight. I've been trying off and on for a couple hours to get connected. EDIT: Wasted night for WoW. Could not get connected at all. Suppose I'll get nothing for the wasted night from them either...like when it started a year ago we got a free day when this crap happened. lol

Not sure if anyone of you are familiar with Keith Parkinson, but he passed away Oct. 26th. due to leukemia. He was a hugely popular Sci-Fi fantasy artist that has done many book, video game, and Dungeons and Dragons book covers and art. He's done most of Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth series covers, some of Terry Brooks, and some of David Eddings book covers. He also did the art work for Ever Quest 1. He was 47. I'm kind of bummed because I really liked his work! An me is willin' an able ta make da grey stuff too...me offered da Covenant free mithril spurs las eve cause dey be cheap ta make an make yer mount run faster...ask da people in AB...me beats dem to da farm, smith, mine, er mill every time wid my carrot on a stick an spurs. anhow...me just blahin' tryin' ta drum up sum bidness since it be lackin' lately. Blizzard should be able to track where all the items and I believe gold went since everything is tied to a database. That was the big issue when the game came out and why looting took so long...the communications to the loot db was slow and the queries weren't very efficient.

Hopefully Benim can be ressurected, and the perpetrators caught so we can all beat them down.
