So you want to run through Molten Core eh? Well take it from me - it is a fun ride - after you get into the swing of things - a bit monotonous - but the thrill of making it through from Lucifron to Golemagg without a wipe... watching a team of 40 people work together for the betterment of all - scrape and climb our way to Ragnaros' lair - only to watch him die his impressive death for the first time after 5 solid attempts on the bastage. Just thought I would write up a little blurb for anyone new to my raid - and for anyone wishing to start up their own MC raid.
It can be done - dont let anyone tell you it cant be. Our first week in MC we had to beg people to come - and we still couldnt fill the raid - we werent planning for an attempt on Luci - it was more of a farming run to get used to the trash... we tried Luci and failed... but knew what we were missing!
Now onto the part people really want to read about =)
History of the Molten Core: The Molten Core is the home of the firelord Ragnaros, one of the four Elemental lieutenants of the Old Gods.
(from WowWiki)
The Molten Core was created during the War of the Three Hammers, more than 300 years ago. Near the end of the war, Thaurissan, the leader of the Dark Iron Dwarves, sought to summon a powerful fire elemental to defeat the combined forces of the Bronzebeard and Wildhammer clans. He was more successful than he could have imagined, as he released Ragnaros the Fire Lord from millenia of captivity under the Redridge Mountains.
Ragnaros destroyed the city of Thaurissan (named after the Dwarven leader) and created the volcano of Blackrock Spire. He dwells there to this day with his elemental servants and the enslaved remnants of the Dark Iron dwarf clan.
From Blizzard's Official World Dungeons site:
The Molten Core lies at the very bottom of Blackrock Depths. It is the heart of Blackrock Mountain and the exact spot where, long ago in a desperate bid to turn the tide of the dwarven civil war, Emperor Thaurissan summoned the elemental Firelord, Ragnaros, into the world. Though the firelord is incapable of straying far from the blazing Core, it is believed that his elemental minions command the Dark Iron dwarves, who are in the midst of creating armies out of living stone. The burning lake where Ragnaros lies sleeping acts as a rift connecting to the plane of fire, allowing the malicious elementals to pass through. Chief among Ragnaros' agents is Majordomo Executus - for this cunning elemental is the only one capable of calling the Firelord from his slumber.
Molten Core Trash Mobs -
Molten Giants
The Very first mob you will encounter in the Core - these impressive glowy guys (Who *iris fondly call Lenny and Carl) are your first taste of pain. Normally they hit for around 700-800 per hit - have a mini knockback and an AOE Stomp. Your Clothies will hate you tanks if you decide to tank these big stomp machines in the middle of the group! Your Main Tank and your Offtank will each have one of these big fellows and they will attempt to keep them seperated from each other and the main group. Make sure your healers are healing BOTH the tanks - and your DPS is waiting for the tank to call for the poundage to begin. For the sake of the clothies around you and the tank's sanity... please dont go overboard with the damage!
Farther down in the Core - the Giants will be replaced in ones and twos by the dreaded Molten Destroyer
These Daddy giants are much meaner then their smaller counterparts - and as our Main Tank loves to say - Goodie - when he gets to play with one of these... of course I dont think he really means it... he always sounds so depressed when he gets to play with a Destroyer... Not only does this guy hit for around 700-800 per hit... He does a massive trample for 1k AOE damage - a knockdown and a Smash attack which is about 1k-1100 damage on the tank - which is why Damage dealers... you do NOT want one of these looking your way!
The Firelord -
This is one of the two main trash mobs you find in the Core - and believe me the Fire Guys will irritate you to no end! They are unbanishable so goodness help you if you get two of them at once! They will randomly target someone and hit them with Soul Burn - a magical Debuff that silences and ticks down for a total of 4000 fire damage over 30 seconds. Priests when fighting these Fireguys - make sure you DISPELL as soon as possible - I dont know about you other clothies... but as a Mage I cant survive a full tickdown! They also summon Lava Spawns on regular intervals... these need to be DPSed down ASAP because if they arent... they will start to procreate and multiply... and pretty soon - the spawn of the spawn will be eating the raid! It helps to keep the spawns near the Firelord so mages can Blizzard the bejeesus outta them!
if you are unfortunate to get two Fireguys in one pull... keep your MT and OT on one of each try to split up some DPS on each - and keep them CLOSE TOGETHER - mages will do their best to AOE down - Rogues and non tanking warriors - when a spawn is up - focus on the spawns while the ranged burn down the Firelord and the Mages AOE everything.
The Lava Annihilator -
The other main trash mob in the Core - they share the same spawn timer/slot as the Fireguys. These Rock guys are banishable - and should be banished if you pull two or a fireguy and a rockguy at the same time. These are the easier of the two trash mainstays ( at least in my not so humble opinion) but they dont like to be tanked by just one person. They swap aggro all over the place to give people loving - so rarely do we wait for a solid DPS call by our tanks... of course if you do so much damage you risk getting smooshed by a 900-1100 damage attack that can one shot a mage with a crit (been there - done that got the repair bill)
(More to come soon! )
