With the coming update, we’ll be making some big changes to the world to make it a more exciting place to build, explore, and adventure in. Read on for details! Introducing New Landscapes! "Landscape" is our new term for what we previously called islands, and it comes with a few changes. First, we're adding a new type! In addition to the beautiful sculpted landscapes you're familiar with already, you'll now also find the new Pioneer Landscapes. Pioneer Landscapes are similar to the Foundation Museum islands you've seen in the past, with extremely flat terrain and no surface caves.So whether you want to build your castle on top of the highest mountain or a perfectly flat field, you'll be able to do it! Starting out One of the advantages of the flat terrain on the new Pioneer Landscapes is that it's easy to build on right away, which makes them ideal for new players. In addition, some of the biggest feedback we got from you about the starting experience were issues related to finding a good location to claim. So, after the coming update, new players will start with a claim already placed for them on a Pioneer Island, and will enter the game standing on that site, ready to go! The new Pioneer Landscapes will initially be reserved ONLY for the automatically allocated new player claims. However, if you prefer to stake your claim on a mountaintop perch or in a scenic valley, you'll be able to pick up your claim and relocate at any time to another landscape of your choice. Claim sites Claim sizes are getting easier to manage and use! Going forward, we are going to increase and standardize the size of claims. We're currently working with a new claim size of 525 x 525 x 450 voxels, which is the size of over 16 old claims. You'll get all of that space right away when you place your claim, as the concept of "attached claims" will no longer exist. Fear not, you’ll still be able to own multiple claims; they’ll just all be the new expanded claim size. Pre-update, you could have a maximum of 8 base claims and 24 attached claims. After the update, those 8 base claims will include the equivalent of over 120 attached claims' worth of space - vastly more area to build in than before! Before: After: Underground changes We're also making the underground world easier to understand and navigate. Rather than distributing adventure and resources between five different layers of caves, we’re simply going to make the distinction “surface” or “underground.” Some resources will be found only on the surface; some will be found only underground. Now you won’t have to figure out which underground layer to visit for the resource you're looking for! Chaos Caverns We are dramatically changing the way that underground cavern networks work in order to make exploration more fun. We're focused on having the most fun through exploration, discovery, and danger. After this update, you can take on an underground adventure at any time from any location! You'll be teleported to the beginning of a random cavern underground. These new Chaos Caverns are still filled with monsters and each one will have ruins! As you travel through the cave network, battling monsters and collecting resources and treasure, you should hunt down the lost ruin. Why? If you find the Lost Crystal hidden inside the ruins, you can use it to receive a reward!

COPIED from the link below: http://landmark.wikia.com/wiki/Crafting Crafting is defined as the creation of components or items in game that can be used in tradeskills, combat, or gathering. It is a central pillar to Landmark's idea of a sandbox game. As such, crafting or forming relationships with friends who enjoy crafting will be a huge factor in a player's success in Landmark. Contents [show] Beta and Crafting Between March and May 2015, numerous changes were made to the crafting system. The list below only accounts for some of the big changes. See the links in this section for comprehensive details not described here. Most props were removed from the crafting system. Instead, most are placed in the world using the Prop Palette. Please verify and update any prop recipes you encounter. The Salvaging system was removed with the May 2015 update, along with the Ether Stone crafting station. Only armor and weapons will require the use of Ether Shards, Aspects and Essences will now only drop from combat with monsters and monsters will no longer drop armor and weapons or recipes. The number of crafting stations was reduced to the Workshop (formerly the Tinkerer's Workshop), the Forge (formerly the Stone Forge), and the Sifter (formerly the Masterwork Sifter). A new station, the Replicator as added. Due to the removal of Ether Shards as a crafting component in most recipes, Ancient Earth was removed from the game. Numerous crafting components were removed in favor of a more direct and less convoluted system; the result is a version of crafting that is similar to the system in early closed beta, which allows players to use materials for both crafting and building, rather than choosing to use them only to craft or to build after refining those materials to a limited purpose. Gathering Tools no longer require aspects to craft. Rather than relying on a RGN system of stats, players can upgrade them based on need. All Sickle and all axes gather all tiers of materials, but upgrading to the next tier of tool now results in a larger number of materials when gathering. Only Picks must be upgraded to mine all types of materials from all tiers and it is unclear if this will remain as such, so check the official forums for updates that may change picks too. Based on player feedback and testing in closed beta, the refined materials were streamlined so that all of the same materials are used for both crafting and building; for example, Cut Plain Wood is used to craft and to build on a claim. At the same time, virtually all superfluous materials that were crafting only were retired; for example, all Heartwood is no longer in the game for crafting. Overview Unlike other games, any player can take up crafting at any time; you do not choose a limited crafting skill (e.g. armorer, alchemist, etc.), because anyone can craft anything, provided they are prepared to take the time to do so. Getting Started To get started with crafting, press J to open the Achievement and Recipe Journal. By looking at the crafting-focused achievements, you can learn many things about the game and what you can do, including the basics of crafting. The journal will help you understand what you need to do to gather materials and when to return to go to a crafting station (also commonly called crafting tables). Completing the some of the building-themed tasks rewards all players with the basic crafting stations, but if you are out exploring the same basic stations can also be found at any leyline spire. Know your Materials Though most materials come from chopping down Trees, from mining, or harvesting plants with a Sickle, some materials come from unusual sources. Ether Shards, aspects (eg. Aspect of Fortitude) and essences (eg. Water Essence) and ether shards are now only dropped by monsters after successful combat, as these components are only used to craft Armor and Weapons. See the Gathering page for a summary of how most materials for crafting are obtained. Summary of Crafting Stations Crafting stations are the place you go when you are ready to craft. Every main, large spire on every island has all of the basic crating tables you need to craft many items in the game. You can also get a set of basic stations by completing the right achievement. Basic Crafting Stations Forge: used top refine all Smelted Ore (like Smelted Solucite, Cut Gemstone (like Cut Skystone, uncommon Cut Stone (like Cut Alabaster, and Lumicite. Used to craft Ethereal Aspects and Etheral Essence needed to make Armor and Weapons and make all armor and weapons. Used to craft Claim Flags and Attached Claim Flags, utility items like Lightstones, all Gathering Tools, all Gear and Equipment with stats like Pulverizers and Accessories. Used to craft more forges for your claims and both of the refining stations (Sifter and Replicator). Workshop: used to refine small amounts of Cut Wood, Woven Textiles, Infused Extracts, and Plastic. Used to craft High Yield Dynamite, all Potions, all non-stat Clothes, and more Workshops for all of your claims. Advanced Crating Stations Rather than have several regular crafting and refining stations that had to be crafted progressively, the current system opts for stations that conserve materials when you craft. Sifter - this is used to exchange large quantities of mined dirt, common stone, sand, ice, and snow for smaller amounts of desirable materials that would normally be mined from various ore veins and deposits of uncommon stone and gems. Replicator You can learn more about these on the Refining Station page. Recipe Tracking with the Watch List Above: (click to enlarge) an edited image showing a materials tracking list from the recipe journal and the shortcut to close it outlined in yellow. In order to help you remember what you need to gather or which sub-components must make before you craft, a recipe journal was added to Landmark. You can access the journal while you are anywhere in the world, away from crafting stations. As of May 2015 (closed beta) it can track only recipes from the basic crafting stations. You are not required to use this feature to craft, but it is highly useful. Once you add recipes to the Watch List, you can keep the recipe in a small window on-screen while you go out to gather materials. If the window does not appear, click the icon that looks like an eye in the upper, right corner of the screen to open the Watch List. Two Ways to Track Recipes The keyboard shortcut: press J to open the Achievement and Recipe Journal. On the left you will see a tab for Recipes. Click on it and then locate a recipe in one of the two lists for the basic crafting stations. Once you find the recipe click Watch at the bottom of the window. Or you can find the recipe you want to track while at one of the two basic crafting stations and click Watch at the bottom of the window. Tip: recipes for items that take sub-components, like smelted ore, will not automatically calculate the amount of ore needed; instead you must add the sub-component recipe to the gathering list. Once the journal is open, you may need to follow a few steps to track any sub-components too. For example, if you want to make a Hewer's Pick, you will then Choose which basic crafting table's recipes you want to view. In the case of a pick, select the Forge to open its recipe list. You will then locate and click on Hewer's Pick in the recipe list. Because the pick is made from refined materials, you may want to add those recipes to the list, so you know when you have gathered enough to refine, before you make the pick. If you look at the recipe in the list, you will see the number 0 when you can't even one of the item you want to craft. As you gather materials though, the number will increase to one and keep going up when you can make one or more. To close a recipe, simply place your mouse over the item icon in the upper left corner of the list and click. Doing so will make a red X appear and you must click it to close the recipe. (Enlarge the image to the right and above this section) The Crafting Process Above and edited for emphasis: in the yellow box, is the list of required components and sub-components to make the portal shards. The top number represents what you have, the bottom number what you need. When you have enough, the Craft button will show up in blue. Shown above and edited for emphasis: you can mouse over any item in the recipe journal or at a crafting station and the tier of the material you need will be shown in the highlighted area of the examine window. Once you have the needed materials to craft items, the process itself is fairly simple. Depending on the complexity of the item, you may need to use more both stations to make sub-components. A sub-component is a combination of one or more materials that are transformed into a smaller crafting-only item first, before they can be used in a recipe. For example, Smelted Druidium is made by combining 2 different materials at the Forge before it can be used as one component in a few complex recipes. You can either use the recipe journal (described above) to see if you have everything you need to start or you can check if you have what you need by looking at the crafting window itself. The Crafting Window The example image to the right shows the crafting window. You can click on the image to enlarge it to help you understand this description. The yellow box was added around key information used to explain the process. When you go to the crafting table, click on it to open the crafting interface. Each table has recipes on the left side of the window, with drop down arrows to expand the list for each category. In the example image, the Utility category has been expanded and the recipe for a Portal Shard has been selected. On the right hand side and near the center of the crafting window is information about the item you've selected; a description near the top will tell you what it does and a number right on the icon of the item tells you how many you will make if you have the necessary components. In the example image to the right, the icon is that of a Portal Shard and you can see the recipe will make one shard using the components listed in the recipe. Directly below is a visual list of each material or sub-component needed to craft the item you've selected. In the example image, the yellow box encloses the list. (When crafting in Landmark, you can also mouse over the small recipe component icons if you do not recognize them). The top number just below the visual list represents the number of each component you have and the bottom number the minimum you need to craft it. As long as the top number matches or exceeds the number, you simply click to create the item. You can adjust the the quantity of an item you'd like to craft by clicking on the up/down arrows to the right of the Craft button if you have enough to make multiples. Clicking down will show the maximum you can make with what you currently have. Tip: When starting out it can be very helpful to track any sub-components you need even while at the crafting stations. This way you'll remember how many of sub-components you need to make first and you'll be certain you have enough when open the recipe craft the goal-item. Player Economy As of May 2015 (closed beta) Landmark does not have any interface for a crafting-related player economy, nor does it have currency yet. These systems will be added over time because commerce will be a strong factor in the thriving world of Landmark. Crafting will be at the core of its existence. Trading with Another Player In the meantime, players can can initiate a trade by: Right clicking on the character while they are standing in front of you. Clicking on the name of a friend in your Friend's list if they are standing in front of you. Doing so will open a window for the person with whom the you want to trade. In order to proceed, they must click "accept" on a dialogue box that will open in the bottom right corner of their screen. You can also use a mailbox to mail items to other players. A mailbox can be found at every leyline spire or you can craft a mailbox for one or all of your claims. Since we are currently lacking in-game currency as of closed beta (Aug 2014), players tend to use copper as a way to tip or pay each other for items. Splitting Materials Stacks In some circumstances, you may want to move only of a portion of a harvested material to another place, like a chest or vault. You may also want to trade with another player or send resources by mail. In order to do any of the above, you must located the material in your inventory (personal/bag, chest, or vault) and then: Place your mouse pointer over the material Hold down your L mouse button and press the Shift key. "Drag" your mouse in a downward motion. Doing so will open a window for splitting up stacks Type a number in the box in the center of the split window or use the small arrow to change the number Drag the newly split stack to the location you'd like it to be (eg. a trade window, mail box item slot, vault) Release the L mouse button to complete the split. As of May 2015, the system is designed to minimize time spent on making stations to craft, to free players to use that time for other activities, like building. Player feedback indicated that new players were often overwhelmed by too many resources used only for crafting and only for building, so materials were redesigned with this in mind and many crafting-only materials, like Heartwoods were retired. The version as of May 2015 is fairly close to the developer intentions at present and very different from several other versions, but it is always best to check the official forums for any future plans. The Blueprint At any time, you can check the Blueprint on the forums to get a sense of what is planned and/or when it will (likely) be added or changed in Landmark. The Blueprint (like a timeline) is updated by developer lead Dave "Smokejumper" Georgeson periodically, based on projections about how close the Landmark team is to finishing certain aspects of the game. (If the link above fails to work, search the forums for a newer version) Bear in mind that just because something is on the Blueprint at a certain date, it is not guaranteed by the date listed, as issues with programming bugs can delay the process or speed it up. Likewise, some planned systems (eg. combat) may be in the near future, but not yet on the Blueprint if a making a fair estimate of the delivery date is not yet possible. Beta Bugs Technically, you can adjust the number of items you'd like to craft using a keyboard, instead of the up/down arrow to the right of the Craft button. To do so, use the numbers at the top of your keyboard; the crafting window does not recognize the zero (0) when using the Num Pad.
  5. I will be working on leveling up to this event on Fri night and Saturday. I will be in TS in case anyone wants to laugh at my lowbie-ness.
  6. I am not sure. I have not used the newer tool myself. I placed a pre-made small tower on my claim (which was available at the time I re-rolled my character after being gone for months) which apparently had a basic workstation immediately available. The tool will show colors and items as you see, but I believe (at this time??) you will still need to make what you place or buy it. Colors were both buyable and craftable back when I last played. Now....??????? Recall that you had to harvest metals and wood. That is still in game and will remain. From that you had differing types of wood (for example) and you could convert some wood to lumbers which opened the ability to make items using them. I would have to spend time in game to answer this better but I plan to be in SoTA trying to level between Fri night and Saturday after I return from errands and stuff. Still stuck in the Massacre area but I found out I have to click on a boat to get out. Need to be somewhat better by Sunday.

  9. Domino & Fairan are still there, providing leadership on the boards. But yes, lots of bitterness. In the business world, taking over a company where most of the employees jobs are being duplicated by the existing staff makes everyone uncomfortable becuase you know the axe will eventually fall on someone, usually the acquired staff. That is exactly what happened when DBG took over EQ. The problem is that when the leadership at EQ were dumped we lost the core of those who had the most investment in keeping EQ as it has been alive and well in the new game being produced. It doesn't mean DBG cannot learn and become familiar, but everyone pretty much knows we lost the true-blue flavor and have moved towards the machine of putting out some game with the EQ name on it. That is where the bitterness started. We also lost the one game that was relying a lot on the gamers/players contributions to make up the game. That was the huge draw on Landmark/Next where what we were going to be playing is made literally by the players. It will not be the same but it may still be good. Bittersweet may be what we call NEXT when and if it comes out.
  10. Landmark - The Game is still open and being played. There have been hotfixes over the past 6 months. The firing of all the old guard killed a lot of it for me, knowin gthat the new leadership would not have the same sense of EQ (the purist in me rebelled) and things would never be the same. Perhaps I was too soon but i needed to heal up before I went back in, which I did last month and started up a new property, but it seems that there are only 4 Islands to place property on, which is probably because of the loss of players that took place. That is just a guess. Comments on the Facebook page is mixed - complaints about 2 years old but no Next yet, to people who came back and are being patient, to people building again and having fun.     Traveling

    During Thursday Aug 27 to Weds Sept 2, I will be traveling via Amtrak from Martinez CA to Naperville, visiting family for a couple days, and returning. See you all when I get back.

  17. Realized something about zones. The same mob in one zone may give different XP than another. This is how you can determine Level of character per zone for hunting purposes. if a grey Wolf is 100 xp in one zone but 200 in another, you are in a higher level zone. Pretty true across all zones and one way to determine general level.
  18. as of Sat 8-8-15, my three story stone house and 2 story basement is in Honor Hold. Head towards SW area, go up paths to get to top and head S, cross bridge over the river that ends in the Waterfall, and you will see my place straight ahead. Wow, what a great location for me, and when I get crafting stations in, self-sufficient almost. Thanks Stan!

  21. Visited at level 15, PRD lvl 1. Dinged lvl 16 and PRD lvl 2 here. Plenty of Brown Bears, Gray Wolves, Small Wolf Spiders, Skeletons, Garlic, Cotton, Rabbits.Trees to chop (Orange leaves). Copper Ore nodes. Quest - From Bodan Koren in Braemar - Leader of the Pack. Find it in this zone. Named: Wolfpack Leader. Skinning at PRD lvl 2 - 68% Chance. 200 ADV xp for kill of Leader. Zone - Good lower level zone up into teens. Can raise both xp and PRD xp, gather mats for crafting and selling, gain quest rewards from skinning and skeletons ( Ectoplasmic Reisue) for XP turn ins.
  22. UPDATE: These 2 quests, while we are in Beta, are good xp. however, at game launch your should NOT do both. The Smuggler gives one quest and the reward may very well be that you are helping smugglers, not something a positive Avatar would do. The other quest if given by a Guildmaster and probably will be what a positive Avatar would do.

Please post any quests that give XP or good items, or places for good XP at level XX, or items dropped and where, etc. I am seeking anything like the Eggs quest which I have done and am grinding out levels while trying to gain resources to develop tradeskills. This can also be used later should they reset us again back to level 1. Thanks.
